We launched Montgomery Watt with a mission to “break the mould” in the recruitment market, specialising in Finance, Transformation and Property management and executives. We have established our credentials delivering for large brands including Sky, MediaCityUK and Colt Technologies as well as a diverse range of other organisations across the UK.

As co-founders and partners in Montgomery Watt, we are Duncan and Claire Watt; a husband and wife team with successful and complementary careers: Duncan as an Executive recruiter and career advisor, and Claire as an MD, CFO and Transformation Director.

Duncan Watt Duncan Watt BA

As a recruiter and career coach with extensive experience of working with candidates and clients across a broad range of sectors and geographies, Duncan brings vast insight and innovative solutions to help clients attract the best talent; working with them to identify critical core competencies, personal profiles and transferable skills. Likewise he  draws out all relevant experience allowing candidates to best market themselves. Open and honest communication and feedback to both clients and candidates underpins Duncan’s way of working throughout the search process.

Career Experience
With over 15 years experience in the Recruitment industry, having worked for Michael Page in both the Manchester and Sheffield offices as well as Singapore, Investigo in London, and in-house for two FTSE 25 companies in London and Stockport, Duncan’s career experience has included:

  • Setting up Michael Page Executive in Singapore and rapidly growing the offering to include Finance, Procurement, Operations, Sales & Marketing and HR
  • Working with complex global matrixed organisations, having recruited across UK and SE Asia including partnering with European and US Parent companies on global engagements
  • Attracted mid-senior level Finance and IT talent to RBS during the Banking crisis through recognising barriers to recruitment and developing new methods of attracting candidates
  • Redesigned and implemented the recruitment strategy for BT’s in-house transformation consulting and revenue assurance teams c.250FTE, widening the candidate pool and improving the brand name within the market, successfully recruiting 60+mid-level managers in 14 months, improving hiring success rates by c.70% and reduced management time by c.80%
  • Working with and supporting senior managers and Executives in a career advisory, capacity helping them with their career planning and development. Recent engagements; CEO (Commodities), Divisional FD (Telco), Operations Director (Telco), Divisional MD (Construction), Senior Finance Manager (Retail), Programme Director (Telco) 

Claire Watt BSc ACMA CGMA

As a senior executive with extensive experience of managing board level relationships across a wide range of business environments and cultures, Claire is passionate about drawing on her career experience to partner with clients and support candidates. Having been in the client’s shoes throughout her career, she has a strong ethos that the appointment process is a three-way deal between the client, the candidate and the recruiter. As a line manager Claire also brings a unique ability to coach candidates and help them best position their applications.

Career Experience
As a qualified accountant with over 20 years experience working for blue chip organisations in various CFO, MD & Transformation roles, Claire’s career experience has included:

  • Holding a number of Senior Executive roles, reporting to the BT Group CFO including, MD Group Customer Billing, Divisional CFO and Group Transformation Director roles
  • Leading large and diverse teams, with line management of executives and senior professionals across Finance, Transformation, Audit, Risk & Compliance, Business Operations, Credit Risk, Billing, Credit Control & Vendor Management
  • Building and transforming teams to deliver improved customer experiences and adding shareholder value including re-designing operating models, organisational design, roles and responsibilities and driving cultural change and improving ways of working
  • Sponsorship and responsibility for large-scale complex programmes delivering business improvement, cost transformation and customer experience improvements
  • Recognised as recruiting, coaching and developing, and promoting Talent having hired, managed and mentored hundreds of finance and transformation professionals many of whom have progressed to senior executive roles
  • Experience of working across cultures and business environments having worked across the UK, in Singapore and South East Asia and in Europe
  • A role model for “Female Leaders within Finance” at BT, hosting and speaking at events
