Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Controller adept in both commercial and programme control, with a strong background in construction or civil engineering. The role will require full control of projects from inception to completion and will require close attention to the customer and all stakeholders throughout the full life cycle of the delivery.

The role will lead the Project Controls function, report into the group Commercial Manager and will deliver the goals and aspirations of development and ongoing capital projects by working with the PM and CM teams to provide a robust and meaningful dataset of control through the life of the projects, and flagging early warnings and risk.

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Ensure end-to-end controls through the RIBA plan stages 0-7 in line with the 5-year business model
  • Work with project sponsors to provide construction cost and programme knowledge and experience to develop the businesses requirements into robust project proposals which can be taken forward for investment appraisal and construction
  • Input into pre-construction activities including selection of staff, recruitment and performance management of operational staff
  • Ensure fairness and harmony within the team always to the company’s ED&I policy
  • Demonstrate relentless drive, energy and determination to deliver a sustainable KPI performance and improvement
  • Reporting progress and holding monthly meetings with the local teams to ensure effective communication on projects

Skills & Experience
Key Skills and Experience would include but not limited to:

  • First class Project Controls specialist
  • Estimating / Cost and Budget Control
  • P6 knowledge
  • Fully capable of managing and working in an integrated model for development
  • Leader of People – good communicator
  • Good delegator and empowers CMs
  • Education; BSc / MSC Quantity Surveyor, Civil Engineer
  • Chartered status (RICs, MCIOB, MICE)
  • NEC suite of contracts / JCT knowledge
  • Risk / Value Manager
  • Excellent Negotiator

Other skills which are highly valued include:

  • Good appreciation of the trends in the UK construction market
  • Awareness of Tender Price Index and fluctuations in the UK market
  • Port / marine work (or similar industrial) would be advantageous.

  • Presentation and communication skills
