Job Overview

This role will lead the professional Project Management function to deliver the goals and aspirations of development and ongoing capital projects.

We are seeking an experienced Programme Manager with a strong background in construction or civil engineering, reporting to the Group Head of Capital Projects and managing a team of project managers nationally.

The role will require full management of projects from inception to completion and will require close attention to the customer and all stakeholders throughout the full life cycle of the delivery.

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Ensure end-to-end project management through the RIBA plan stages 0-7 in line with the 5-year business model
  • Drive continuous improvement in Safety, Health and Environmental performance to ensure the highest standards are put at the forefront of all projects
  • Deliver a large portfolio of projects nationally, of varying size and complexity to achieve the desired quality, time and cost targets in accordance with company ISO standards and governance
  • Overseeing the statutory consents for the projects
  • Effective negotiator and strategic approach to relationship management and dispute resolution
  • Work with project sponsors to provide construction knowledge and experience to develop the businesses requirements into robust project proposals which can be taken forward for investment appraisal and construction
  • Coach, motivate and lead the PM team of both internal staff and external consultants, leading by example to ensure the successful delivery of projects with effective engagement of all stakeholders

Skills & Experience
Key Skills and Experience would include but not limited to:

  • First class Project Management Skills
  • Business acumen and team player
  • Fully capable of managing and working in an integrated model for development
  • Leader of People – good communicator
  • Good delegator and empowers PMs
  • Education; BSc / MSC Building, Construction Management, Surveyor, Civil Engineer
  • Chartered status (RICs, MCIOB, MICE)
  • PMP trained preferable
  • NEC / JCT knowledge
  • Knowledge of P6 and commercial systems – an astute planner
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence and have own car as travel is expected within the role.

Other skills which are highly valued include:

  • Good appreciation of the trends in the UK construction market
  • Awareness of Tender Price Index and fluctuations in the UK market
  • Port / marine work (or similar industrial) would be advantageous.
